“Courage is not simply one of the virtues, but the form of every virtue at the testing point.” — C.S. Lewis

In life, courage is a virtue we often seek but sometimes struggle to grasp. The world can be daunting, and our challenges can make us feel small and insignificant. Yet, within each of us lies the potential for immense courage, grounded in faith and fortified by divine promises.

The Bible is filled with verses that remind us of the courage we can find in our faith. One of the most common exhortations comes from Joshua 1:9: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” This verse calls us to embrace courage, knowing we are never alone in our struggles. The presence of God is a constant companion, providing strength and assurance.

Another powerful scripture that speaks to the heart of courage is Isaiah 41:10: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” These words are a divine promise that we are upheld by the Creator of the universe, who empowers us to face any adversity. Is it going to be easy? It will probably not be, but taking courage is not a one-time act but a daily decision. It involves stepping out in faith, even when the path is unclear. It requires trusting in the promises of God and leaning on the support of those around us.

Here are a few practical steps to embrace courage in our daily lives:

  1. Pray: Spend time in prayer and meditation, seeking God’s guidance and strength. Reflect on scriptures that reinforce the promise of divine support.
  2. Affirm your faith: Speak words of affirmation to yourself. Remind yourself of past victories and the strength you possess within.
  3. Take a step: Take small steps of faith each day. Whether speaking up in a meeting, pursuing a new opportunity, or standing up for what is right, each act of courage builds upon the last.

Courage is a journey, a continuous process of growth and reliance on God’s promises. As we navigate the complexities of life, let us hold fast to the words of scripture and the wisdom of those who have gone before us.

Remember that we are never alone, for God is with us, strengthening and upholding us. In the words of Deuteronomy 31:6, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

May we all find the courage to face our fears, stand firm in our faith, and live boldly in the light of God’s enduring love. In Jesus Name, Amen!

PS — Listen to this and be encouraged
