Cancer, We’re Done: Confronting the Enemy with Divine Power
Cancer is a ruthless thief that steals precious moments with friends and loved ones. It strikes out of nowhere, leaving behind a trail of pain and uncertainty. I’ve seen its darkness up close, and my heart is heavy with its impact. While every story is unique, I’m sure we can all share the sentiment: #### cancer!
Watching my wife, Amy, go through skin cancer treatment was incredibly tough. Her courage was inspiring, but the experience was a constant reminder of our harsh new reality — a reality that suddenly and brutally introduced cancer into our lives. I am thankful her story is different than many, but still a reality no one anticipates navigating. God, thank you for healing Amy!
Yesterday, we learned that our friend Melissa is about to have surgery for breast cancer. The anger and sadness hit hard again. It’s painful to see someone so full of life be struck by this cruel disease. Melissa’s battle only deepens my hatred for what cancer represents. God, please heal Melissa!
So, what do we do amid all this? We cling to faith and hope. Scripture offers comfort and reassurance that even in the darkest times, there is a divine presence that provides healing and strength. Isaiah 53:5 (NIV) says, “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds, we are healed.” This verse reminds us that through Christ’s suffering, we’re promised healing, a promise that sustains us in our toughest moments.
Psalm 30:2 (NIV) also brings comfort: “Lord my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me.” This verse shows that God is a healer who responds to our cries for help and brings restoration to our weary hearts.
James 5:14–15 (NIV) encourages us to seek prayer and faith in times of illness: “Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up.” These words remind us of the power of prayer and the hope that faith can bring healing and recovery.
As we navigate this challenging time with Melissa (feel free to insert anyone else you’re supporting), I’m reminded that our fight against cancer is also a journey of faith. It’s about leaning into our beliefs, trusting in God’s healing power, and finding comfort in His promises. While I still hate cancer with all my heart, my faith, strengthened by these scriptures, helps guide us through each trial and reminds us that we’re not alone.
Cancer may be a tough opponent, but with faith and divine support, we can face it with hope and strength. God, show Yourself as the great healer! You are our only hope. We are depending on you.
🙏 Lord, we come before You with heavy hearts, grappling with the pain and injustice of cancer. We ask for Your healing touch upon all those who are suffering — Melissa and anyone else battling this cruel disease. Surround them with Your peace and strength, and let them feel Your comforting presence in their darkest moments. We pray for wisdom and guidance for their doctors and caregivers. May Your healing power flow through them, bringing restoration and hope. Help us to trust in Your promises, hold fast to our faith, and support one another with unwavering love. We ask this in Your holy name. Amen.
